Posted February 02, 2019 12:00:00 Appalachian Trail Tattoo artist and trail guide, Kristina Bouchard, is in her first year on the trail.
She says she feels fortunate to have the opportunity to do this, even though it’s hard to see it now, because it’s a way to reconnect with the world around her.
Bouchards work is in partnership with the American Mountain Trail Conservancy.
She is also the co-owner of Appalachian Tattoo and Crafts, a creative agency based in Portland, Oregon.
She and her husband, Matt, have been hiking the Appalachian trail for nearly two decades.
In addition to tattooing, BouchARDS creative skills include making custom jewelry, decorating a tattoo parlor, crafting an outdoor jewelry shop and creating a unique fashion show for the 2018 International Women’s Day celebration in Maine.
We caught up with BouchARD and asked her about the tattoos she’s received along the trail, the process of getting them done and why she believes tattoos should be legal.
What makes you a trail tattoo artist?
I love tattoos.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a firefighter or a mechanic, and I wanted them to stand out on the street, so I got my first tattoo at age 13, right when I was going through puberty.
I always wanted to get tattoos, but I always had a hard time getting them because my mom would take away my credit cards, so it was really expensive.
And then when I got older, my mom got me my first tattoos, and it was so nice because I was able to show that I was independent, that I didn’t have to work at the factory or whatever it was that they were doing.
But as I got to be an adult, I started thinking about what it was like to be the first woman to walk on the Appalachian and get the first tattoo on it.
I started getting more tattoos.
I got more tattoos because I wanted people to know that I could walk the trail and be proud of it.
What kind of tattoos do you get?
I get a lot of really big, big, giant ones.
It’s really weird because the tattoos are very personal to me.
I like to show people that I’m proud of the fact that I have a huge leg.
I think that it’s so cool to be able to say, I’m the first to walk that trail, and people see it and they want to say I’m lucky.
Do you have a favorite tattoo?
I have one of my favorite tattoos, which is the little black cross that’s on my right leg.
It was just a really simple design, and then I put that on a lot when I went to school.
I had this guy take it off and I had to take it back, so that’s the first thing I took off.
I still have it because I have it on my left leg.
What’s your favorite tattoo design?
The one on my leg is the most important because it represents the trail to me and the trail is so beautiful.
I just love that.
It means so much to me to have something that’s so simple and beautiful.
You’ve been tattooing for a while.
How did you get involved in tattooing?
My dad has a tattoo business, and he did a lot more than just my leg, but he also has some great tattoos that he’s got.
I’ve been doing this since I was about 12 or 13.
I was actually just in kindergarten when I started doing it, so now it’s become a big part of my life.
What do you think of the way people have responded to the tattoo?
The first time I got a tattoo, it was a really big deal because people really reacted to it and that’s just a sign of how much love they have for people.
I’m so happy to be in the business because I’m making a difference in people’s lives and it’s just so nice to see people really want to see that.
And I also think that we can see a change in the country.
People want to have a little bit of a change, and that tattooing is really a symbol of that.
What are your favorite tattoos?
I like the one on the right leg, which was my favorite because it was just so simple.
It said ‘I’m the best’ on it, which really made me feel like that was me.
It meant a lot to me, and to see other people want to do the same thing and I think people can see that we have a lot in common, and we’re all working towards a better future together.
What would you say to people who are curious about tattoos and want to get one?
I’m here to help people get their first tattoo.
I have all of the info, and they can just go and go to my website and look it up.
I will tell them, you don’t have the
